Top Retro MX Style Motorcycle Helmets
Over the last few years we have seen a slow but steady shift in the custom motorcycle world. Tastes evolve and motorcycles are no exception; remember when fat wheeled, chrome clad, spider web and spike adorned v-twins were all the rage? Scramblers (and every cross breed combination you can imagine) have crept ever closer to the forefront of the motorcycle world, to the point where major manufacturers began producing factory models. We may be The Cafe Racer by name but, when it comes to the custom and classic motorcycle scene, we have something for everyone. If you’re looking for a lid to look the part with your scrambler, or simply want the airflow and aperture of an open face with the safety of a full face, our guide for the Top 5 Retro MX Helmets is sure to help.
The latest addition to our ¾ face helmet line up is the AGV X101. AGV have a strong and storied pedigree that dates back to 1947. Kenny Roberts, Barry Sheene, Giacomo Agostini, Guy Martin and Valentino Rossi have all raced in AGV helmets. Their introduction of fibreglass shells in 1954 revolutionised motorcycle safety equipment and they have continued to evolve to this day. AGV have increased their retro offering over the last few years and we are excited to introduce the latest addition to the line up - the AGV X101. Inspired by Dakar events of the 70’s and 80’s the X101 evokes the spirit of adventure and excitement associated with the pioneers of rally racing. While retro in appearance the X101’s fibreglass shell is extremely lightweight and meets ECE 22.05 certification. The removable and washable leather lining is both comfortable and luxurious, adding a real quality feel. The hemet has a removable peak and a wide aperture which will work perfectly with goggles. While not as extensively ventilated as modern MX helmets the large mesh covered vents on the chin guard allow enough fresh air in to stop you becoming uncomfortable in hot weather or when riding off-road without making the helmet unusable in colder weather. The AGV X101 is a great option and an exciting new addition to our collection of retro motorcycle helmets!
Bell Moto 3
A modern classic and one I’m sure most are already familiar with. The Bell Moto 3 has been a popular choice for a number of years now. The latest in edition of the iconic Bell Moto helmet has seen modern day safety and comfort added to an instantly recognisable design - arguably the original retro MX lid. The soft moisture wicking micro suede lining has added a lot of comfort and has been further improved since the initial release. As with most Bell helmets we have the ability to customise its fit with a variety of cheek pad sizes - if you’re struggling with fit please contact one of our staff members, who have all received fitment training and certification from Bell Helmets themselves.
Shoei have a slightly different take on the ¾ face helmet. In contrast to the purely retro offerings from other brands, the Ex-Zero has a more modern and exaggerated form - it’s somewhere between a futuristic fighter pilot helmet and retro throwback thanks to it’s drop down visor and pointed chin bar. It’s fair to say that Shoei are one of the leaders in the helmet world and subsequently the Ex-Zero comes jam packed with features that do not appear on the other helmets. The helmet has a 5 layer AIM shell and EPS liner which make it lighter and safer, quick release chin pads for easy removal of the helmet without stress to the neck or spine in the case of an accident, a drop down UV visor, and a removable and washable liner with a fully customisable fit. If you’re looking for more than just style the Shoei Ex-Zero is the one for you.
